We’d always planned to go to Ireland but thanks to a flight cancellation it happened before we anticipated. We were not at all prepared for cold, wet November weather but we had a fantastic day in Shannon! We took a bus from the airport into town and found a fantastic old pub and had a lovely lunch. It was absolutely adorable inside-cozy with friendly service and delicious food! They catered to both our vegan choices and my food allergies.
The best part though was that when I ordered a Guinness the server asked if I wanted black current syrup in it. WHAT?! This is, she told me, quite a thing so I obviously took her up on this offer. I’m not typically one for sweet drinks but just a little added was perfect! I can’t believe no one ever told me about this before!
Next we popped next door to Bunratty Castle which happened to be closing but we got a photo op and a gorgeous walk before the rain picked up. We meandered through the area and I got to see two of my favorite things: moss and thatch!
We explored some shops and saw a freshly married couple taking their wedding photos. We headed back to the bus stop and luckily we ran into a man who let us know we were at the wrong stop after having waited for ages in the dark, cold, and wet.
We thoroughly enjoyed our accidental day and will absolutely be back to Ireland on purpose but not until summer or, at the very least, with proper attire.
